What is Canton Water Walk?
Started by a group of students at Glen Oak High School, the Canton Water Walk has helped to raise awareness for the desperate need for clean water around the world.
In 2017, the students turned their efforts to Malawi, Africa and set a goal of raising enough money to drill a borehole (water well) to provide safe, clean water to a village.
The cost is approximately $6000.00! They hope to achieve their goal through student activities and fundraisers.
Why do we need to make a difference?
Often the water available above ground contains harmful disease-filled contaminants as well as insect and parasitic larvae.
How can you help?
- The group of dedicated students love to share the story and would welcome an opportunity to speak with your group!
- Host a water walk. One of the eye-opening activities is hosting a water-walk. Participants can seek sponsorships from friends and families. At the event, they learn what it is like to carry water in a bucket on your head. While not nearly as exhausting in weight or distance as the women in Malawi carry their water, it allows participants to realize how blessed we are here!
- Financial and in-kind contributions are always welcome!
- For a tax-deductible gift, you can make checks payable to Crystal Park United Methodist Church with “CantonWaterWalk” in the memo.
